CLAYTON, MO (KMOX) - A group of Missouri lawmakers will converge this summer and fall to investigate how St. Louis County distributes its sales tax revenue.

Chesterfield Rep. Sue Allen says some municipalities, like Chesterfield, have big malls which generate a lot of sales tax revenue but that money is then sent to other, more residential parts of the county to fund road projects or police.

“I’m not saying that they’re going to undo all those things, it’s just to look at the uniqueness of governance of municipalities,” she said.

Allen says there is no reason to believe something is being done wrong but the goal is to better understand where the money goes. “First of all, the goal of the committee is to identify an independent study.”
